How to look after a new tattoo when you are on holiday in Madeira, with sun, sea and a flight home ahead of you.
The first hours
Keep the dressing on for as long as your artist told you. Then wash gently with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap, and pat dry with a clean paper towel.
The first two weeks
Wash it twice a day and apply a thin layer of the cream we recommended. Do not scratch or pick: let any flaking come away on its own.
Sun
Madeira's sun is strong all year. Keep the tattoo covered with loose clothing while it heals, and do not put sunscreen on it until the skin has closed.
Sea and pools
No swimming until it has healed: no sea, no lava pools at Porto Moniz, no hotel pool. This is the reason to get tattooed at the end of your trip, not the beginning.
Flying home
Flying with a fresh tattoo is fine. Wear loose clothes over it, drink water, and wash it when you land.
If something looks wrong
Some redness in the first days is normal. If it gets worse, feels hot or you have a fever, see a doctor, and send us a photograph so we can help.
Touch-upTouch-ups are free within 30 days, after we have seen how it healed. If you are already home, send us a photograph.
