Don't miss
Natural swimming pools in black lava at the north-west tip of the island, refilled by the Atlantic.
Lava ran into the sea here and cooled into a maze of basins. The tide fills them with clear salt water, so you swim in the ocean without the swell, while the waves break on the rocks a few metres away.
A tipThe drive along the north coast is half the reason to come. Leave time to stop at the viewpoints.
